Look for ways to sell yourself

Focus on your skills and accomplishments and look for ways to sell your qualifications. A prospective employer does not just want to know where you worked, but also wants to know what you have accomplished in the past, because that is the best predictor of what you can do in the future.

If you're looking for a management job, make sure your resume and cover letter don't make you look like a techie - move your technology stuff to an area called "Technical Skills," and concentrate on selling your managerial skills and experience.

Don't try to hide the fact that you're missing one or two requirements. The recruiter will see straight through it. Instead, a well-written covering letter can fill those gaps in a positive way, playing to your strengths.
